The way that you start off your morning can make or break your entire day. I’ve had days were I have been rushed to get things done in the morning and I didn’t get time to myself that were just awful. I don’t mean that bad things happened, but I was in a terrible mood and what fun is that? So, I thought that I would share a little bit of my morning routine with you. Here are four things to do to start your day off right:

1. Be Grateful

I know, I know this sounds super cliche. Before I started practicing being grateful everyday, I thought people were crazy for saying this would make my day better. However, if you take the time, right when you wake up in the morning and lay there quietly and list off the things that your grateful for, you will see a dramatic improvement in your happiness.

It’s like what I said in my How To Stay Motivated When You’re Anything But, it’s all about choosing to be happy and counting your blessings. Now, you don’t have to do exactly what I do. Maybe you want to pull out a journal and write what you’re grateful for every morning while you have your cup of coffee. Either way, just take the time, you will be surprised to find out how great your life really is. Which takes me to my next point.

2. Have a Cup of Coffee

Have a cup of coffee. . . or tea, whatever your choice of poison is. I notice that when I get up, I am excited to have my cup of coffee. There’s something about the warmth of the cup between my hands and the morning sun with a nice cup of coffee. This little thing has the ability to set my entire day off right.

I’m sure that there are people reading this who don’t like coffee. . . and while I don’t understand that, again just grab some tea. I want to make it clear though that it’s not the coffee that I need, it’s the feeling. It’s that moment in time where you can reflect or read a book, or just sit in the silence with that feeling of warmth in your hand. The main point is that it sets out a time for yourself and whatever you want to do.

Now, I feel like most people already have this step implemented in their daily routine. However, if you haven’t, please try it out for a few days and let me know how it goes!

3. Drink Water

Again, I know how cliche. Except it’s not. Every morning, after I’ve thought about what I’m grateful for, I go to the sink and down a glass of water. Then I get the coffee pot going and while I wait for it to be ready, I down another cup of water. This is extremely healthy for you and you will thank me in the long run. If you’re a person who says that you hate water and that it’s so nasty. . . you might want to rethink that. Drinking water is not only good for you skin, your mood and your metabolism, but it’s also essential for your overall health.

I am including this in the four things to do to start your day off right list, because it puts you and your health first. By downing those two cups of water before your coffee, you’ve already decided to put yourself first and that’s always a great way to start the day. Plus, for some reason it always makes me happier.

4. Read a Book

You don’t have to sit down and read an entire book, but read a chapter out of a book or even a few pages. It has never hurt anyone to read and why wouldn’t you want to educate yourself? Try reading a self-improvement book, or anything that motivates you. Like I’ve said in previous posts, that motivation from a book or podcast is enough to keep you motivated throughout the entire day.

You will find that by finding something to motivate you will make you a happier person. If you combine all four things to do to start your day off right, you will have the recipe for a perfect day. Okay, maybe it won’t be perfect, but you will have set yourself up to handle anything.

If you’re feeling stuck in your day-to-day routine, try to switch it. One day, add a cup of coffee. Another day, add a motivational podcast or book. Make yourself and your health the first priority in your day and you will feel accomplished and ready to go.

At the end of the day, you don’t have to follow my routine. Do whatever makes you happy. That’s actually the point, just find what truly makes you happy. Find what makes you feel good inside, I mean down the core type of feel good. Then, just do it. . . everyday and choose to enjoy your life.

Love, Victoria
